• Joaben Thompson: Experience the powerful and thought-provoking works of this talented Wakka Wakka and Iningai artist.
• Cultural Storytelling: Explore the stories and traditions of Indigenous people through Thompson’s art.
• Connection to Country: Witness the artist’s deep connection to the land and its cultural significance.

Joaben Thompson, a proud Wakka Wakka and Iningai man, channels his life experiences and cultural heritage into his art.

Raised in Barcaldine by his grandfather, David Thompson, Joaben’s deep connection to Country and tradition informs every piece he creates.

After serving in Afghanistan and discharging from the army in 2012, Joaben discovered art as a powerful tool for meditation and healing. His work, a blend of acrylic on canvas and handcrafted cultural tools like walking sticks and boomerangs, reflects his journey and the timeless wisdom of his ancestors.

By merging traditional Indigenous storytelling with contemporary techniques, Joaben’s art offers viewers a deeply personal yet universal experience. Each piece serves as both a reflection of his own story and an invitation for others to engage, interpret, and connect with the narratives of his people, fostering a space for contemplation and cultural appreciation.
